Chapter 34 - Tethers and Transition Tactics

We’ve set out the first principles of how we can use hydrogen as a tether to link exergy sources. So experience tells us that first principles often hide in-practice difficulties. Yet what’s surprising about this principle is that the implementation can be straightforward, and the results even better than we might expect. That is why I’ll now spend a little time reviewing the origins of the approach, which can be more broadly described as integrated energy systems. Then we’ll examine how it can be, and is being, used today.
